Economist: Commercial real estate ‘is really falling apart, there's a lot of pain’
Commercial real estate has been through quite the transformation ever since the pandemic. With companies and financial institutions heavily invested in commercial real estate assets while businesses and workers move to more remote and hybrid positions, some on Wall Street are sounding the alarm bells as to how damaging this could eventually be to the stock market.
A. Gary Shilling & Co. Founder and President Gary Shilling joins Yahoo Finance to discuss how much of a risk commercial real estate investments are for markets.
"It's not enough to sink the ship. I mean, if you look at the subprime mortgage fiasco in 2008, it gave us the most serious recession since the 1930s, and all its ramifications," Shilling affirms. "I think now, the economy is vulnerable. This is... certainly a negative. Y...

Between Rate Hikes and Inflation, Can the US Economy Stay Afloat?
GDP data for the first quarter confirmed the economy is still growing, but may be inching toward a contraction. The 1.1% of growth recorded for the first three months of 2023 was well below forecasts of 2.0%, and reflects an economy battered by surging inflation and relentless interest rate hikes. Is this lackluster growth the sign of an imminent recession? The Future Of The Space Economy | CNBC Marathon
CNBC Marathon explores the current space economy and how new endeavors for space travel, exploration and mining are being developed.
NASA has been using the current spacesuits on the International Space Station for decades and they are showing their age. The agency has had issues not only with finding the proper sizes to fit its increasingly diverse astronaut corps, but also with degradation of some suit components. Now NASA is turning to two commercial companies: Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies, to build and maintain its new generation of spacesuits.
The International Space Station will likely be retired within the decade. NASA hopes to save money by having commercial companies build the next space outpost. Some companies including Sierra Space a...

Moving the economy is “just another day” at Norfolk Southern
Even an ordinary day at Norfolk Southern has an extraordinary impact on the American economy.
That’s the theme of Norfolk Southern's latest television commercial, “Just Another Day,” which begins airing today on cable networks. “It’s a message that Norfolk Southern people are out there around the clock, quietly and reliably taking care of business,” said Frank Brown NS avp corporate communications. “With all the issues pressing for attention, it’s good to know there’s a transportation company that’s doing what it’s supposed to do and that can be counted on to keep doing it -- with no muss, no fuss.”

Some companies including Sierra Space and Axiom Space are already working on a commercial space station. But the question is, will these stations be ready in time?
Just a couple of years ago, it seemed that space mining was inevitable. Analysts, tech visionaries and even renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson predicted that space mining was going to be big business. Space mining companies like Planetary Resources and Deep Space Industries backed by the likes of Google’s Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, cropped up to take advantage of the predicted payoff. After all, the holy grail of asteroids, known as 16 Psyche, had an estimated worth of $10,000 quadrillion.

The commercial was filmed in Atlanta’s Inman Yard under supervision of Troy Conway, training coordinator, transportation, who appears in the spot (albeit briefly) along with Katrena Brown, an NS locomotive engineer. Rhonda Broom, manager advertising and promotions, and Stacey Hugo, manager community outreach, both of Norfolk, organized the production from NS’ corporate communications department.
The speaking parts are actors Bo Micadelic and Mac Wells. RP3 Agency of Bethesda, Md., produced the spot, and the director was Ray Dillman of the Wondros production company in Los Angeles. Dillman is an Emmy winner who has created commercials for AllState, the U.S. Army, American Airlines, PGA, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, and Home Depot.
